Volkswagen updates the ID. Buzz for Europe with new tech and trims, while the electric van is set to leave the U.S. market after weak sales.

Volkswagen is preparing an updated version of the ID. Buzz range for the European market, adding new equipment, revised cabin technology and more drivetrain options. The electric van, which has been on sale since 2022, keeps its retro-inspired exterior almost unchanged, but receives a number of practical upgrades inside and under the skin.

The ID. Buzz has performed far better in Europe than in the United States. While the model has built a recognizable niche on its home continent, its American launch has not delivered the results Volkswagen expected. High pricing and limited demand have made the van a difficult sell in the U.S., where annual sales remained below 7,000 units in 2025.

Inside, the biggest change is Volkswagen’s newer Innovision infotainment system. The updated interface brings app-store functionality and is paired with a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel that restores physical buttons for key controls. Otherwise, the cabin layout stays familiar, with a compact driver display, a large central screen and the same horizontal dashboard design. As before, the Cargo model uses a simpler, more work-focused interior.

Volkswagen has also broadened the ID. Buzz’s feature list. A third row of seats is now available for the standard-wheelbase passenger version, while the regenerative braking system supports one-pedal driving. The Connected Travel Assist suite has gained traffic-light recognition, and a new external power supply function allows the van to deliver up to 2 kW to outside devices. Visually, the main novelty is a new two-tone white and cherry paint scheme inspired by the classic Volkswagen T1.

The lineup now includes a new Pro 4Motion variant, positioned just below the GTX 4Motion. It uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 340 hp and is offered with both short and long wheelbases. Depending on the body version, the ID. Buzz Pro 4Motion comes with either a 79 kWh battery and up to 428 km of range, or an 86 kWh pack with up to 476 km. Volkswagen quotes 0–100 km/h acceleration in 6.1 to 6.4 seconds, while towing capacity reaches up to 1,800 kg.

European sales of the refreshed ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo are scheduled to begin this summer. In Germany, the new Pro 4Motion starts at €60,820 for the short-wheelbase model and €62,647 for the long-wheelbase version. The ID. Buzz Cargo Pure is priced from €48,367, while the long-wheelbase GTX 4Motion sits at the top of the range with a starting price of €70,049.

The updated 2026 ID. Buzz will not be part of Volkswagen’s U.S. lineup. The company is expected to pause American sales because of weak demand, although the model may return later, potentially for the 2027 model year after a more meaningful revision.
