Stelato G9 Prepares to Expand Huawei and BAIC’s Luxury EV Brand
Stelato G9 will become Huawei and BAIC’s second joint model, arriving as a large luxury SUV with hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
Huawei and BAIC are preparing the second model for their joint Stelato brand. After the S9 sedan and the S9T wagon, the lineup is set to grow with the new Stelato G9, a large luxury SUV aimed at China’s upper-end electrified market.
Stelato is part of Huawei’s HIMA ecosystem, short for Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance. The brand was announced in 2024, with BAIC providing automotive manufacturing expertise and Huawei supplying much of the digital, driver-assistance and cockpit technology.
The G9 has now appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology database, revealing its first images and basic specifications. Unlike the sleek S9 sedan, the new SUV uses a much more upright and rugged design language.
The exterior features massive bumpers, vertical lighting elements at the front and rear, semi-hidden door handles and power-deploying side steps. A lidar sensor on the roof points to Huawei’s advanced driver-assistance hardware. At the rear, the G9 gets a side-opening tailgate, with the option of an externally mounted spare wheel.
Buyers will also be offered a darker exterior package, replacing chrome trim with black decorative elements.
Despite its off-road-inspired look, early information suggests the Stelato G9 is not a traditional body-on-frame SUV. Instead, it is expected to use a unibody structure, placing it closer to large luxury crossovers than hardcore off-roaders.

The G9 will be very large. Depending on version, length will be either 5,206 mm or 5,377 mm. Width is 2,050 mm, height is 1,897 mm, and the wheelbase measures 3,160 mm. Wheel options will include 20- and 22-inch designs.
The interior has not been shown yet, but Chinese reports suggest both five-seat and six-seat layouts will be available. Given the model’s size and positioning, the cabin is expected to focus heavily on rear-seat comfort and Huawei-powered digital features.
The Stelato G9 will be sold as both a fully electric model and a range-extender hybrid. Both versions will use all-wheel drive.
The electric drive system will use two motors with a combined output of 594 hp. In the hybrid version, those motors will be paired with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 160 hp, used as a generator rather than the main source of propulsion.
Battery capacity and range figures have not yet been released. However, the G9 is already confirmed to use air suspension, which should help support both ride comfort and the SUV’s premium positioning.
Sales of the Stelato G9 are expected to begin in China before the end of this year. Once launched, it will give the young Huawei-BAIC brand a much broader lineup, moving Stelato beyond executive sedans and into one of China’s most competitive luxury SUV segments.
