Kia XCeed survives as the last remaining member of the Ceed family in Europe, gaining a sharper design, a new interior and updated equipment.

Kia has updated the XCeed, and this time the facelift carries extra significance. The crossover-style hatchback is now the only surviving member of the European Ceed family, after the regular hatchback, wagon and Proceed shooting brake were phased out in favor of the newer Kia K4.

The XCeed has always been the most distinctive version of the Ceed lineup. Rather than simply being a raised hatchback with plastic cladding, it received its own bodywork, a more dynamic roofline and no small extra side windows in the rear pillars. That formula remains, but the styling has now been brought closer to Kia’s current design language.

The front end has changed the most. The updated XCeed adopts vertical headlights instead of the previous horizontal units, while the grille has been reduced to a narrow opening. Below it, the new front bumper features a much larger central air intake.

At the rear, the lights now have a more complex shape and are connected by a slim LED strip. The bumper has also been redesigned with a large silver insert. The side panels remain largely unchanged, including the mirror housings, but Kia has prepared new wheel designs with a more geometric look.

The cabin receives a much more serious update. The dashboard has been redesigned in the style of Kia’s latest electric models, with two 12.3-inch displays combined into one wide panel for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. A new two-spoke steering wheel keeps plenty of physical buttons, while the climate-control panel mixes touch-sensitive controls with rotary knobs.

Kia says the facelifted XCeed will also offer a broader list of options, including new driver-assistance systems and improved ride comfort.

Full technical details have not been released yet. For now, Kia has only confirmed gasoline and mild-hybrid powertrains. The outgoing XCeed has been available with a 1.0-liter T-GDI engine producing 115 hp and paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, as well as a 1.6-liter T-GDI offered with 150 hp or 180 hp and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Production will continue at Kia’s plant in Žilina, Slovakia, where the XCeed will be built alongside the Sportage and the upcoming EV4 and EV2 electric models. The rest of the Ceed family is no longer produced in Europe, while the new Kia K4 is imported from Mexico.

In Germany, the pre-facelift XCeed currently starts from around €27,000. Production of the updated model is scheduled to begin on May 29.
