Ford has introduced the Mustang Dark Horse SC, a high-performance variant powered by an 806 hp supercharged V8 derived from the Mustang GTD. Offering comparable performance at roughly one-third of the GTD’s price, the model combines track-focused upgrades with a more accessible entry point into extreme Mustang performance.

The Ford Mustang GTD, introduced in summer 2023, represents the ultimate track-oriented evolution of the legendary pony car. Recently, the GTD Competition version became the fastest American production car ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing the lap in 6 minutes 40.835 seconds. However, with prices starting at $325,000 and limited production numbers, the flagship model remains out of reach for most enthusiasts.

As a more attainable alternative, Ford has introduced the Mustang Dark Horse SC, first announced in January and now revealed with full specifications and pricing. The key highlight is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, closely related to the engine used in the record-setting GTD.

The V8 develops 806 hp and 895 Nm of torque, only slightly below the GTD’s output of 826 hp and 900 Nm. This represents a substantial increase compared to the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8 found in the standard Ford Mustang Dark Horse, which produces 507 hp and 567 Nm.

Power is delivered through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, replacing the standard 10-speed automatic gearbox. The Mustang Dark Horse SC also features significant chassis upgrades, including Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, forged suspension components, magnesium structural reinforcements, and updated MagneRide adaptive dampers.

An optional Track Pack enhances performance further with carbon-fiber wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and additional aerodynamic improvements. A ventilated aluminum hood improves cooling efficiency, while a larger rear spoiler and wing generate up to 281 kg of downforce at 290 km/h. The optional package can also reduce curb weight by approximately 68 kg by removing the rear seats.

Unlike the Mustang GTD, which features a specialized chassis co-developed with Multimatic and a transaxle layout with a rear-mounted gearbox, the Dark Horse SC retains the traditional front-engine layout of the standard Mustang platform.

Visually, the new model stands out with revised bumpers, larger front air intakes, and a more aggressive rear diffuser. Inside, the car receives a flat-bottom steering wheel derived directly from the GTD supercar, along with leather and Alcantara trim accented by contrast stitching and carbon-fiber details. Optional Recaro sport seats with integrated headrests are also available.

Pricing for the Mustang Dark Horse SC in the United States starts at $108,500, roughly one-third of the price of the flagship Mustang GTD. With the Track Pack option, the price increases to approximately $145,000. For reference, the standard naturally aspirated Mustang Dark Horse starts at around $64,000.
