De Tomaso has shown the first customer P72, a $1.8 million analogue supercar with retro Le Mans styling and a supercharged Ford V8.

De Tomaso has revealed the first customer example of the P72, nearly seven years after the reborn brand first showed the supercar concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2019.

The road to production has been long. Development changes, pandemic-related supply issues and changes in manufacturing partners delayed the project several times. A test car was completed in late 2024, the production version was shown last year, and now the first customer car has finally been presented.

The P72’s design was created by Jowyn Wong of Wyn Design and takes inspiration from 1960s Le Mans racers. The first customer car is finished in Aurelian Night, a special paint that appears almost black most of the time but turns blue under bright sunlight.

The exterior is highlighted by rose-gold details on the front splitter, air intakes, rear diffuser, body stripe, mirror caps and wheels. The result gives the car a more elegant and coachbuilt feel than a typical modern supercar.

Inside, De Tomaso continues the same theme. The cabin is trimmed in Venetian Blue leather, with rose-gold accents on the steering wheel, gear lever and instruments. There are no large screens or modern digital interfaces, as the P72 is designed around a fully analogue driving experience.

Even the suspension follows that philosophy. There are no electronic drive modes, and the three-position pushrod suspension must be adjusted manually with tools.

Power comes from a modified Ford Coyote V8, related to the engine used in the Mustang GT and Dark Horse. For the P72, it receives a Roush Performance Roots-type supercharger, forged internal components, a dry-sump lubrication system and other upgrades.

Output is rated at 710 hp and 920 Nm of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a short-throw six-speed manual transmission.

The exhaust has also been specially tuned by Roush. De Tomaso says the goal was to emphasize the engine note while avoiding the typical supercharger whine.

Production of the De Tomaso P72 will be limited to 72 units. Pricing is expected to start around $1.8 million, before options, personalization and taxes.
