Epicland X9 introduces Dongfeng and Huawei’s new large SUV brand, combining a six-seat cabin, advanced Huawei electronics and possible Aito M9-derived hardware.

The new Epicland X9 is the first model from Dongfeng and Huawei’s freshly created car brand, known as Yijing in China and Epicland for export markets. It is a large three-row SUV aimed at China’s fast-growing segment of technology-focused family vehicles, with Huawei responsible for much of the digital hardware and software.

Epicland is formally a new joint brand between Dongfeng and Huawei, but the partnership is not starting from zero. Huawei already has deep links with Dongfeng through Seres, the company behind the Aito brand. That connection explains why the new X9 appears closely related to the Aito M9, one of the most advanced large SUVs currently offered with Huawei technology.

The X9 is a genuinely large vehicle. It measures 5,301 mm in length, 2,015 mm in width and has a 3,120 mm wheelbase. These figures place it almost directly alongside the updated Aito M9, although Epicland gives the SUV its own exterior identity. The front end uses split lighting units and Huawei’s Xpixel projection headlights, while the rear receives a full-width pixel-style light bar. The model also gets flush door handles of a more conventional design and will be available with both single-color and two-tone paint finishes.

Huawei’s technology is one of the main highlights. The X9 is equipped with the latest Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system, supported by a high-resolution lidar unit mounted above the windshield, plus multiple cameras and sensors around the body. This setup suggests that Epicland will rely heavily on Huawei’s autonomous-driving features as a key selling point.

Inside, the X9 follows the current Chinese premium-SUV formula with a six-seat, three-row layout and a screen-heavy cabin. The dashboard features a wide dual-display setup for the infotainment system and front passenger, while rear passengers get several individual entertainment screens mounted to the seatbacks. Another larger display folds down from the ceiling. The cabin electronics, voice assistants and infotainment functions run on Huawei HarmonyOS Cockpit 6.

Epicland has not yet revealed full powertrain specifications. However, given the apparent link with the Aito M9, the X9 may use similar hardware. The M9 is available as a range-extended hybrid and as a fully electric SUV. In the range-extended version, a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine acts as a generator, feeding large battery packs, while two electric motors provide all-wheel drive. The electric version uses an even larger battery and the same dual-motor layout.

The most interesting question is where Epicland will sit in the market. Unlike Aito, the new brand is not being presented as a clearly premium marque. Dongfeng already has Voyah for that role, so Epicland may be positioned slightly lower, offering Huawei technology in a more affordable package. That could help the X9 compete more aggressively in China and give the brand better export prospects, especially with its English-language Epicland name.
