Deepal S05 Gets a Quiet Facelift With More Tech and Cleaner Details
Deepal S05 receives a light update in China with lidar, hidden door handles, revised lighting and more cabin customization, while the powertrain lineup remains unchanged.
Deepal has updated the S05 crossover in China, giving the compact electrified SUV a mild refresh less than two years after its original debut. The model first launched in 2024 under the Shenlan S05 name and is offered with both range-extender hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
The changes are mostly visual and equipment-related. On the outside, the updated S05 gains a lidar sensor above the windshield, semi-flush door handles instead of the previous pop-out units, revised headlight and taillight graphics, a redesigned autopilot status indicator and new 18-inch wheels.
The cabin receives small but useful updates. Buyers can now choose from three interior color schemes, while the previous button-style door releases have been replaced by conventional mechanical handles. Deepal has also added a glovebox in front of the passenger, increasing the total number of storage areas to 37. Ambient lighting now offers 256 color options.
The mechanical package carries over unchanged. The range-extender version combines a 1.5-liter engine producing 98 hp, used only as a generator, with a 238 hp electric motor driving the rear wheels. The pre-facelift version weighs 1,830 kg, reaches 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h.
Its 28.4 kWh battery provides up to 215 km of electric range under the CLTC cycle, or 165 km under WLTC. Combined range with the petrol generator reaches 1,310 km.
The fully electric S05 uses a single rear-mounted motor with 272 hp. It is available with CATL batteries of 56.1 kWh and 68.8 kWh, offering CLTC ranges of 520 km and 620 km respectively.
The smaller-battery EV weighs 1,770 kg and accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The larger-battery version weighs 1,856 kg and takes 6.5 seconds. Both have a top speed of 185 km/h.
Pre-orders for the updated Deepal S05 open in China on July 30. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the current model is offered in seven trims priced from 119,900 to 149,900 yuan, or roughly $17,700 to $22,100.
The facelift does not dramatically change the S05, but it gives Deepal’s compact crossover a more modern look, stronger driver-assistance hardware and a slightly more practical cabin.
