BYD Great Han Emerges as a Full-Size Flagship Sedan
BYD Great Han moves the Han nameplate into flagship territory with S-Class-rivaling size, up to 764 hp and a claimed 1,008 km CLTC range.
BYD is preparing a new flagship sedan called the Great Han, also known as Dahan, and early specifications show a much larger and more powerful car than the existing Han family. The model has appeared through China’s homologation process and is expected to launch on the domestic market later this year.
The Great Han is a full-size sedan measuring 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase. That makes it longer than a standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class, placing it well above the regular BYD Han in size and positioning.
Its design follows BYD’s latest Dragon Face styling language. The front end features slim headlights connected by a chrome strip, while the lower bumper includes an active air intake. The sedan also gets semi-hidden door handles, blacked-out pillars, a dark roof and a full-width rear light with a Chinese knot pattern.
A lidar sensor on the roof confirms that the Great Han will use BYD’s advanced DiPilot driver-assistance system, including Navigate On Autopilot capability for highways and urban roads.
The electric lineup starts with a rear-wheel-drive version producing 496 hp from a single rear motor. It has a top speed of 240 km/h and is expected to offer up to 1,008 km of CLTC range.

The all-wheel-drive EV version is much stronger, with total output of 764 hp. Its top speed rises to 270 km/h, while range is listed at up to 880 km. Depending on version, the Great Han weighs between 2,210 kg and 2,505 kg.
BYD will also offer a plug-in hybrid version. It uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 154 hp, paired with a 268 hp electric motor. The hybrid has a 54.489 kWh LFP battery, giving it up to 370 km of electric range. Fuel consumption with an empty battery is claimed at 4.6 l/100 km.
The Great Han is expected to share major technology with the Great Tang SUV. That could include ultra-fast charging, DiSus-A suspension, dual-chamber air suspension with adjustable ride height and rear-wheel steering, although BYD has not confirmed the full equipment list yet.
The timing is important for BYD. The standard Han remains on sale, but its recent domestic sales are no longer at the level of the brand’s strongest models. The Great Han gives BYD a chance to push the nameplate into a higher segment, where size, range, driver-assistance tech and luxury features matter as much as price.
With up to 1,008 km of range and performance approaching high-end electric sedans, the Great Han looks less like a simple Han replacement and more like BYD’s new statement car for the upper end of the Chinese market.
