Arcfox Rounds Out Its Lineup With a Youth-Focused Electric Crossover Called αT7

Arcfox, the sub-brand BAIC set up back in 2015, took its time finding momentum. The label didn't truly get going until 2020, when the original α-T crossover arrived, and for years it stayed a niche player. That's changed dramatically in the last twelve months: an electric hatchback called T1 launched last summer, and 2024 alone has already brought an updated αS5 sedan, an all-new Wendao V9 minivan, and a compact four-door dubbed S3. Now the brand is preparing to add a fifth model to that rapid-fire expansion, and its design has just been fully revealed.

The new αT7 crossover is clearly built to catch a younger buyer's eye. Rather than the understated look typical of budget-oriented family cars, it leans into an athletic, low-slung silhouette wrapped in heavily sculpted bodywork. Wide air intakes, a front splitter, a rear diffuser and a trunk-lid spoiler give it a genuinely aggressive stance for the segment. Both the headlights and taillights are studded with clusters of tiny LEDs that scatter across the main lamp units, producing what the brand describes as a "stardust" effect. A lidar unit for Huawei's Qiankun autonomous-driving system sits perched above the windshield, signaling that this crossover is meant to compete on tech as much as looks.

Dimensionally, the αT7 is no small car: it stretches 5,020 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall, riding on a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Buyers can spec 21-inch wheels finished with body-color inserts, and peeking through the spokes are eye-catching yellow four-piston brake calipers - a small but telling detail for a model aimed at a sportier crowd.

Step inside and the theme continues. A sweeping 1.1-meter-wide screen runs beneath the windshield, doubling as both the driver's instrument display and a front-passenger entertainment panel. Dominating the center of the dashboard is a 17.3-inch, 3K-resolution tablet for the infotainment system - one of the largest screens fitted to a vehicle in this class. The cabin also gets a three-spoke steering wheel, a column-mounted gear selector, and a panoramic glass roof. A two-tier center console houses a wireless phone charger alongside cupholders, while the dashboard and door panels repeat the same scattered-LED "stardust" lighting motif seen outside.

Powertrain-wise, Arcfox is offering the αT7 in two flavors: a hybrid and a pure electric. The hybrid pairs a 105-horsepower naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine, acting purely as a generator, with a 272-horsepower electric motor, and the whole car tips the scales at 2,000 kg. The all-electric version swaps in a 309-horsepower motor and comes in slightly lighter at 1,980 kg. Neither the 0-100 km/h time nor the exact battery capacity has been disclosed yet, though both versions share an identical 180 km/h top speed. The electric model relies on lithium-iron-phosphate cells supplied by CATL, and BAIC hasn't yet confirmed drivetrain layout details.

Arcfox is targeting a launch before the year is out, and given the brand's reputation for value pricing, Chinese media outlets are already speculating that the αT7 could carry a strikingly low sticker price for a car this large - reportedly around 200,000 yuan, or roughly $29,500. If that estimate holds, it would put a lidar-equipped, five-meter electric crossover within reach of buyers who'd otherwise be shopping several segments down.
