Wartburg was an East German automobile brand manufactured by Automobilwerk Eisenach from 1956 to 1991. Named after the Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, the brand became known for affordable family cars powered by distinctive two-stroke engines. Its best-known model, the Wartburg 353, remained in production for decades and became a familiar sight across the Eastern Bloc before production ended following German reunification.
