The Polestar 1 was the brand's low-volume flagship, a hand-built grand tourer produced from 2019 to 2022. Underneath its carbon-fiber body sat a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a turbo-and-supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with dual rear electric motors, delivering around 600 horsepower and a substantial electric-only range for a performance hybrid. Built at Polestar's dedicated Chengdu facility in strictly limited numbers, it served as a technology and image showcase rather than a volume seller, blending Volvo-derived engineering with distinctive coupe styling. With its lightweight construction, torque-vectoring rear axle, and premium interior, the Polestar 1 established the brand's performance credentials ahead of its shift toward fully electric models.
