Matra, short for Mécanique Aviation Traction, was a French industrial conglomerate founded in 1945, initially focused on aerospace and weaponry. It ventured into car manufacturing in 1964 by acquiring Automobiles René Bonnet, becoming Matra Automobiles. Based in Romorantin-Lanthenay, France, Matra produced innovative sports cars and racing vehicles, often leveraging its aerospace expertise for lightweight materials like fiberglass. Led by Jean-Luc Lagardère, the company made a mark in both road cars and motorsport.
