Essex Motor Company was an American automobile brand introduced by Hudson in 1918 as a more affordable companion marque. Essex became famous for bringing enclosed cars to the mass market at prices close to open touring cars, helping make closed-body vehicles popular in the 1920s. Known for solid, practical cars and strong sales, Essex was eventually replaced by the Terraplane name in the early 1930s.
