Audi 80

The Audi 80 was the brand's enduring compact executive saloon, produced across four generations from 1972 to 1996 before evolving into the modern A4. Built on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout (with later quattro all-wheel-drive variants), it offered a range of inline-four and five-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, balancing everyday practicality with Audi's growing reputation for engineering precision and build quality. Available as a saloon, and later estate (Avant) and coupe derivatives, the 80 competed with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes 190. Its clean styling, solid construction, and progressive technology helped establish Audi as a serious contender in the premium segment.
