The AMC Matador was American Motors' mid-size entry, produced from 1971 to 1978 as a successor to the Rebel. Offered in sedan, coupe, and wagon body styles, it featured a distinctive fastback coupe design after 1974, styled with a bold, aerodynamic look unusual for its class. Power came from AMC's inline-six and V8 engines, including the 360 and 401 cubic inch options, balancing everyday practicality with reasonable performance. The Matador coupe gained fame through NASCAR competition and a memorable role as James Bond's flying car in The Man with the Golden Gun. Today it remains a curious, distinctive relic of 1970s American design.
